About Chris

Chris is a jazz and classically trained saxophonist, clarinetist and flautist. He began his saxophone training under the tutelage of Scott Templeton at Yarra Valley Grammar School. He has since studied saxophone extensively with Graeme Lyall, Julien Wilson and Mirko Guerrini whilst completing his Bachelors Degree of Music (jazz) at Monash University.

Throughout his time at Monash, he also studied clarinet with Ian Morgan and flute with Peter Sheridan, culminating in achieving his AMusA on each instrument in 2015, complementing his AMusA on alto saxophone, which he achieved in secondary school in 2010. Chris was also selected to perform in Top Class of 2010.

Chris has had the opportunity to play with great musicians such as Maria Schneider, George Garzone, Enrico Rava, Paul McCandless, Joe Lovano, Dave Pietro, Jeff Coffin, Dave Schroder, Rich Perry, Rich Shemaria and Kenny Werner.

Chris has also been involved in numerous recording projects, varying from playing the Hyperbass Flute for the Monash Flute Ensemble to Tenor Saxophone for Sexercise: The Musical.

Musical theatre has been a huge part of Chris’ playing, having performed in various pit orchestras on several instrument combinations. From Grease to Chicago and Seussical to Les Miserable, Chris is comfortable playing in a diverse range of styles.

Chris has also performed in three nation wide tours of China:
-2014 – Four Seasons in One Night – 7 weeks
-2015 – The Phantom Unmasked – 9 weeks
-2015/16 – Hollywood Music – 3 Weeks
